About Shallow Water Angling
Shallow Water Angling was started with a passion to share fly fishing experiences. Guide Ash Burton has been fly fishing in Central Iowa for 30 years and wants to share experiences that many fly anglers overlook. Part of the experience is learning the techniques to fly fish for a particular species. Our primary pursuit is fly fishing for Carp on shallow flats. Seasonally, we fish for Wiper (Hybrid Striped Bass) in lakes and rivers.

Fly Fishing For Carp?
Catching a Carp on a fly is one of the more challenging fly fishing pursuits.
Carp are a wary, smart, hard fighting fish. They grow very large and pull hard. Catching a Carp requires stealth, accuracy, and a subtle touch. They are typically sight fished on shallow flats where they can be found feeding on a variety of food sources. Carp eat everything from worms to mulberries. The technique is much like fishing for Bonefish or Redfish on coastal saltwater flats.

Our day trips offer an exciting experience and can be customized to meet your needs. The goal is not only to catch fish, but to also learn techniques to help the angler catch fish in the future. Appropriate tackle can be provided.
1/2 Day - Lake
$250 (1 or 2 person)
A 1/2 day trip is up to 4 hours long and is offered as a walk and wade or still water boat trip. This is a great way to experience sight fishing for Carp on the flats or chasing Wiper in shallow bays.
1/2 Day - River
$300 (1 or 2 person) Price may change depending on location.
A 1/2 day river float trip is up to 4 hours long and will require shuttle service. This is a great way to fish for multiple species and enjoy the scenery as we float down one of Iowa's rivers.
